Boadicea, warrior queen of the Iceni, returned once more to eastern England as the figurehead for Toastmasters International’s UK and Ireland District 71 Conference and humorous and impromptu speech finals on 8th-10th November 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Resort, Colchester, Essex.

“We chose Boadicea to head our conference as she is the queen of communication and leadership skills,” said Constance Turner, Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and Boadicea Conference Director.

Prizes for the draw at the formal dinner - attended by assorted Icenis and Roman soldiers - were donated by the Crowne Plaza Resort, and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, from their ship Boudicca.

Cathy Shelbourne of Sea Shell Communications, and a member of Ipswich Electrifiers Speakers' Club affiliated to Toastmasters International, set up a photo shoot at the conference venue, and interviewed Toastmasters for a double page article she wrote for the East Anglian Daily Times on the skills required for talking your way to the top. Radio interviews, coverage in local papers, and regular tweets and blogs on the Boadicea Conference website, were also part of the campaign.
