Implementation

Alan Boswell, the former Head of Design at Oyster Marine, approached Sea Shell Communications at the Suffolk Business Exhibition 2013 for a PR campaign to launch Boswell Yacht Design Ltd.

Based in Suffolk, his design service can supplement an in-house team, or work as an outsourced operation, for yachts and power boats.

Alan trained as a naval architect, and began his career as a boatbuilder. He also headed up the technical design team at Dubois Naval Architects Ltd where he was responsible for the detailed design of Ed Dubois’ first superyacht, the 125 foot sloop Aquel, and was involved in the development of well-known yacht brands such as Moody, Westerly, and Wauquiez.

“It hasn’t just been plain sailing though,” recalls Alan. “I’ve enjoyed specialising in the provision of unusual rig designs, such as junk rigs and wing sail rigs, for over 200 customers carrying out conversions."

His most unusual project was designing Moksha, the amazing pedal-powered boat which Jason Lewis used to become the first person to complete a human powered circumnavigation of the world.

Alan was the business guest on BBC Radio Suffolk on 13th July.

Alan also featured in the September/October 2013 issue of Anglia Afloat magazine. This assessment of the future of yacht design in East Anglia can be seen on the Anglia Afloat website.
